Strongman Competition

Strongman Competition

Do you have what it takes to take the Serbian Festival Strongman Championship home? Rules for the event will be available at Serbian Festival for all to see. You can download and sign the waiver form ahead of time or do it in person at the festival.

You will be able to participate in the following events:

  1. Mas Wrestling - MAS wrestling is a two-man tug of war using a wooden stick, also known as the “mas.” In a match, the competitors sit on the floor facing each other, with their feet pressed against the footboard divider in-between them. When the match starts, both players have a two-handed grip on the mas, keeping it parallel to the footboard. The goal, then, is to either pry the stick out of your opponent’s hands or to pull your opponent over the divider. As the match develops, players can move their feet along the length of the footboard, but if they touch the footboard with their hands, they are disqualified. A coin toss determines which athlete gets to choose the stick hold position (external or internal) in the first match of a series.
  2. Kamena S' Ramena (Shot Put) - An old Balkan traditional sport played during festivals and celebrations. The goal is to throw a rock from your shoulder the furthest. Each competitor will get three throws, of which his furthest one will be recorded. Everyone keeps throwing until we have a winner!
  3. Tug of War (Teams of 4) - Tug of War is one of the most ancient games known to man and there is evidence that it was played across the ancient world including ancient Greece, Egypt and China. Also known as rope pulling, tugging war and war of tug, it remains today a popular sport that pits the strengths of two teams against each other and is practiced in some form in almost every country in the world.
Most Tug of War matches are completed in a best of three format, and the objective is to beat the competition and win the match by winning at least two of the three pulls in the match. Within each pull, the objective is to win by pulling the opposition and the opposition’s 4m marker towards the centre so that the mark passes the centre line, resulting in a win. It is not possible to tie a Tug of War match.
